This morning Russians are shooting ballistic missiles at Kyiv from Russia’s Bryansk and Voronezh oblasts. MiG 31s are also in the air and there might be a couple of Dagger (Kinzhal) missile launches.
Pause.
Thing is, you see, I’ve grown used to this. As part of the gleaming green bracelet of impossibly good luck that exists to counterbalance my black bolt of explosively bad luck (there seems to be no middle ground) I don’t know anyone who has been actually hit by one of these missiles directly. At this (dealing with it, preparing for it) I remain a total beginner.
I took the metro just to be safe.
As of this writing (07.25), all the big booms have come from air defense rockets shot up in the sky to intercept the missiles. Haven’t heard any impacts. Yet. People in Kyiv’s Holosiivsky, Shevchenkivsky districts are already posting vids of falling missile debris, cars and building roofs on fire, etc.
I mapped out the the route taken by the anonymous young soldier forcibly conscripted in Russia-occupied Donetsk region in February 2022.
He was dead seven months later.
Volume III of LIVING THE WAR is out. The reporting part is excellent, as are the actual stories and photos and layout. Not thrilled by the introductory essays, tho.
In short, life in Russia-occupied areas of Ukraine sucks and will continue to suck until the invaders are driven out or killed.
Another project, Fairy Tales, Ruslan Lobanov’s 2025 calendar, is out and selling like hotcakes.
Many people have asked me where/how they can buy one. Unfortunately, as with Verite NFTs, they have already sold out. Better luck next time.
