On Saturday, about 15 minutes into his chit chat w/ Christiane, Z said his presidential tenure was marked by Covid and then full-scale war.
In fact, the war started five years before he was elected in 2019.
The president said he was ready to talk about holding elections, but Ukrainians "absolutely do not want" them because of the possible risk to Ukraineʼs security.
"They are afraid. We will lose the legal regime of martial law if there are elections. The soldiers will return home, and Putin will occupy all of our territory. Now we have mobilization, we are a single organism, a single country. And therefore it is very important that this continues to be the case," Z said
The issue [regarding holding elections] is not about the president, but about the need for the survival and salvation of the country, independence and people. For this, he added, unity among citizens is necessary.
"And if someone doesnʼt like it, they can choose another citizenship. If they want. They have property abroad," Z said.
Ukrainians are not fond of authoritarian leaders, especially their own, whom they usually seek to depose.
The last time I checked, public trust in the president was low and dropping fast. Z and his potent managers horribly mismanaged the country before the invasion by land, air and sea and have done the opposite of building national unity since.
Also in the news, French President Emmanuel has called leaders from key European Union nations and the United Kingdom to his ornate Elysee Palace on Monday for an emergency meeting on how to deal with Donald and Team USA.
It’s vulgar to dwell on what else can go wrong with Europe’s heads of state. Some aren’t completely annoying to be in the same room with, and some do good work. We must admire their tenacity to remain in national politics amid rejection and slamming criticism from Donald across the pond.
