This morning, a man I sat opposite from in the subway car was wearing a thumb ring.

Maybe he uses it in archery to protect the big digit from the bowstring during a thumb draw? Or, I thought, he could making a fashion statement to express his personal style, which no one is interested at this time in the morning.
Today, the big news is Z’s meeting with Donald, who said yesterday, “The war will end soon, or not at all.” My favorite member of the Donald’s team, US Treasury Secretary Scott, continues to disappoint.

“[The minerals deal] is really a win-win. It brings the Ukrainian people and the American business community closer together. It shows the American people that there is upside here for them, that we have not squandered the money because the American people are always concerned about overseas intervention.”
We are all, of course, in awe of Scott’s courage to visit Kyiv to weeks ago, but his conclusion that Donald will make history by “making assets for the American people rather than debt in Ukraine” is, er, bullshit.
While there are indeed rare earth minerals in Ukraine, geologists do not know where they are, quantity, how much they’re worth or how much it will cost to extract them to the surface.
Team USA and Ukraine are *flawed democracies,* one step up from *hybrid regimes.”
Congratulations!
