Putin has put Trump in a very difficult position. All those drones — some launched from Belarus — flying into Poland. If this is not a deliberate provocation by Putin aimed at humiliating NATO, then it is a spectacular fiasco engineered by the recently decorated Chief of Russia's General Staff Valery Gerasimov. You decide which is more annoying.

Occam's Razor suggests the simpler explanation: this wasn't grand strategy but the predictable consequence of launching hundreds of missiles and drones in the general direction of targets near NATO's border. When you fire that much ordnance with Soviet-era accuracy systems, some of it will inevitably go astray. The question isn't…
