Three years ago today, Russia declared its annexation of four Ukrainian regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, roughly the size of the state of Virginia. If we add Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, it’s the size of Alabama, a little more than 52,000 square miles. The Kremlin has published Putin’s congratulatory address on the anniversary of the reunification.
