The sleep of gadgets
Running water returned this morning. Heating too. Electricity. I took a long shower—the kind you take when you’re not sure when the next one might be—then made the catastrophic decision to set up a Xiaomi Smart Electric Hot Water Dispenser via Wi-Fi at 5:00 a.m.
The app cheerfully informed me the water was “ready.” What followed was a half cup of triumph, a thoughtful hum, then a dramatic geyser of steam scalding my fingertips. I deleted the app while my hand was still burning.
