I realized I was 100 days off on several of last week’s posts—dating them in reverse instead of looking forward. Let me set the record straight: 100 days from now, it will be Day 1549, May 13, 2026. The weather will be warm and sunny, and we’ll be up to all sorts of mischief.

Today’s temperature? About the same as Anadyr, Chukotka—a lovely Russian city in the Far East where I watched entrepreneurs hawk limbs of various forest creatures on winter streets in the early ‘90s. Actual moose and reindeer limbs. The acting mayor then was a Kherson native. Magadan wasn’t warm either. But things thawed in Khabarovsk and Sakhalin.

The coldest place I’ve ever been? Probably Chara in Yakutia. Maybe Chita. Irkutsk, Novosibirsk? I know cold. After getting frostbite in Syktyvkar, I finally learned to dress appropriately.
