We’re are stuck in Stage 3 of the bloody mess. The 1,300-kilometer long contact line is static, but surprises galore are in store.
Since June 3, Day 1001, tens of thousands more Ukrainians and Russians have been killed, maimed and/or made homeless. Billions, maybe trillions, more dollars worth of stuff has been blown to smithereens.
What has changed?
The momentum has shifted. David at WAPO says the de-occupation part of the war has begun, noting that it might take many months, or even years, to complete2. That means Phase 3 might end after we’re dead. Looking on the positive side, we might live forever.
U.S. intelligence agencies are hoovering up brontobytes of target info daily and passing it along to their Ukrainian partners, who presume upon themselves to select Russian military units to obliterate.
It’s too early to report successes and failures of this genius assault plan. Ukraine’s General Staff has ordered a BLACKOUT for jornos in the red zone until at least September 6. That’s because at least one foreign news crew blabbed the location of the advance made by Ukrainian units prematurely.
