And then there’s Masha Gessen, who together with Steven Korn a decade ago disembowled Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s bureau in Moscow, wasting millions of U.S taxpayer dollars in the process. Masha has recently, with much fanfare, de-platformed herself from PEN America’s board, that is, resigned.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Pope Francis should probably also be included in the revolting cast of characters in this disgusting phase of fascistic Russia’s genocidal campaign against Ukraine. The former thinks Z could have avoided the war by promising not to join NATO, while the latter has praised Putin as a man of culture.
The truth is Masha, Bobby and the Pope complement each other. And the funniest joke in the world is that the latter two belong to the Catholic Church, attend daily Mass and believe in a supernatural dictator.
Masha is given to self-created reality, casually misleading with the conviction of a truth-teller. Just ask the board members of Liberty Media Corporation. A decade ago in Moscow, she was more keen on news about polar bears than links between the mafia and the Russia’s defense minister. Hard news took a back seat to fluff, she fired the staff, resigned and returned to the Big Apple.
These days, anyone who puts their name to anything involving Russia unless it expressly and emphatically damns Putin uphill, downhill and all the way to hell should be doomed. If the “morality” of Masha, Bobby and the Pope perpetuates Ruscism one iota, it is no more to be excused for its own sake than “immorality.”
Why? Because we should know better.
