Promises to support Ukraine “as long as it takes” were changed to “as long as we can” yesterday. Appropriators in the Senate from the Republican and Democratic parties don’t agree on changes to US immigration laws, so they can’t.
In other news, the maniacs next door early this morning lobbed another salvo of land-based Iskander ballistic cruise missiles at Kyiv. We think. Collateral damage was impressive. More than 50 people injured, hospital windows blown out, water main pipe ruptured, et cetera.
The Iskander is a Cold War relic. They weigh about 4,000 kilograms and carry a 500 kilogram warhead. Russia launches them from Bryansk region, which means they don’t have to cover much distance. Pretty much straight up and straight down.
Another possibility is S-400s. We’re not exactly sure yet what they are shooting.
In other news, hackers from Team Russia ransacked the innards of Ukraine’s top mobile communications provider KyivStar, knocking out service for 24 million subscribers. Stefaniia & the chipmunks from Reuters have the gory details here.
Finally, this, a vlog post about Team USA’s creepy House Speaker:
