Z’s heart might in the right place. But his brain is scrambled. This will not help future forced conscription and prosecution of the war. Ukraine’s silly, unreliable ally, meanwhile, has also been unhelpful. US lawmakers, led by MAGA maniacs, don’t appear eager to vote for further military assistance.
Ejecting Zaluzhny
What Andy and Marc leave out in their article is that the new law on forced conscription — the draft — is the job of the vertical of power (Cabinet, Parliament. Office of President) run by Z and his Servant of the People Party. At least, according to the Constitution. The president has consistently attempted to avoid championing the measure, which lawmakers are expected to adopt in early February.
Chris at The Financial Times says four unnamed people “with knowledge of the situation” think Zaluzhny’s ouster is a fait accompli.
We got the answer to the second question yesterday evening. Most Ukrainians would support getting rid of Z rather than replacing Zaluzhny, who, unlike the president, knows what he’s doing and is emotionally stable. As for suitable candidates to replace Zaluzhny, there are none.
