Almost exactly five years ago, Ukrainians elected Z because they thought/hoped he would/could make peace with Putin. We don’t blame Ukrainians for supporting magical thinking then or Team USA later for delaying military assistance. Maybe someone should whisper in Z’s ear that it is Putin — not the world — who is to blame for invading the country he is president of. And maybe it’s Z’s fault for thinking he wouldn’t/couldn’t.
