Over the Top
Z's brain might be our worst enemy
Z’s defiant and uplifting oratory has already been chopped up and posted without much challenge in English and American newspapers, ezines and posted to TikTok.
With all due respect, his 45-minute performance in parliament yesterday was over the top.
The president said that Ukraine has changed the world, returned to it true values, has become one of the strongest and most free countries in the world. And that we are on the path to victory, thanks to our soldiers, our partners who give weapons, our people who pay taxes and thanks to our internal unity, which should change the traditions of Ukraine’s history of mistakes.
Invited by leaders of the United States and Europe to contribute something, anything, to Ukraine’s military defense, Z proclaimed: “Today NATO standards are being determined in Ukraine.” In anyone else this would be a solipsism, rather than one more delusion commingled with truth.
Outside parliament, the Z cult in Ukraine is mild and reflective in comparison with the president’s cheerleaders abroad. The aftermath of February 24 has only reinforced a series of tropes and laid the groundwork for the president’s own plaudits. The rest of the world might wish that if Ukraine is going to stand for something, it (or its overpaid speechwriting class) would try to come up with more original — less Churchillian — motivational rhetoric.
In other news, Ukraine’s newly appointed ambassador to Bulgaria has told us to ignore hyped-up insinuations about government incompetency and her libido-boosting supplements career.
Whatever. Maybe Olesia can sit down for a couple of interviews in order to clear up the mystery about her qualifications for the job.
