Day 16, Phase 3
Lyman, Popasna, Bakhmut, Severodonetsk
It’s Day 90. TikToking war correspondents wearing helmets and armor plates are wasting precious gasoline zipping around Donbas between already bombed out and/or besieged mostly evacuated towns. Last time I checked, each leg of the red square is about 60-70 kilometers long, as the crow flies.
The search is on for death-defying viral moments: abandoned pets, pep talks with old women, ambulance rides, trench warfare.
It’s 21st-century Squid Game jornoism, replete with new levels of soul sucking stupidity. I don’t think Rory would approve. Looking on the bright side, at least this time around, legacy western media will unlikely embed with ‘separatists’ and Rory’s Trust might decide to pick up burial costs in the event of a perfectly avoidable — yet accidental — work-related death1.
Jomini below provides us with the order of battle, which hasn’t changed much for most of Phase 3.
Here’s another way to look at it.
And another map.
I’m in the крiпатура stage of this year’s 6-minute-mile@60 programme, so excuse me while I mull it all over while pounding the pavement.
