According to the Jacaard Index comparison, Cold War has 641 relations, while Newsweek Senior Editor William Arkin has 45. So, that’s 1.3% = 9 / 641 + 45).
I mention this because Newsweek has been churning out lots of bullshit about Ukraine, including Exclusive: The CIA's Blind Spot about the Ukraine War with Bill’s name on it. I suspect he and his anonymous interlocutors at DIA and CIA don’t understand Russian or Ukrainian or what the fuck they are are talking about.
But I was most curious about what, exactly, Bill actually did in Berlin.
The job of a U.S. intelligence analyst in Berlin during the late 1970s was boring as fuck. As I recall, HQ was located at the Clay Headquarters Compound across from the cemetery. It was about a 30-minute walk from Andrews Kaserne. Military intelligence, per se, was in short supply during Bill’s tour. He probably lived in the barracks, didn’t have German girlfriends and avoided smoking hash with anyone from USM-5 or Det-A.
But back to Bill’s exclusive Ukraine-related analysis.
According to Bill, Team USA, led by the CIA and their hundred or so undercover agents, doesn’t want us to kill Russians in Russia. They expect us to resist fascistic Russia’s genocidal campaign locally. This, of course, is insane.
Recall that Bill informed us in March 2022 that Putin had no intention of demolishing Ukraine.
The Washington Post owned Newsweek, the American weekly news magazine where Bill is senior editor, from 1961 to 2010. Bill also shares his Ukraine fantasies and fears of nuclear annihilation on Substack 1.
