The four legs of the table

David tells us not to be depressed about the war, because the United States and liberal democracies around the world are benefiting from it¹.

This is almost as bad as saying we should be thankful for Z’s growing popularity internationally, thanks to speechwriters and a masterful public lobbying campaign. Unfortunately, amid all this success, Ukraine’s democratic institutions continue to fail miserably.

Which brings me directly back to Ukraine’s kangaroo courts and Roman Chervinsky, who has been in pre-trial confinement since, er, Day 426². Kyiv’s Shevchenkivsky district court ruled yesterday to keep him behind bars for another 60 days.

Ambassadors to Ukraine from all G7 countries should tell Z and his minions privately and in public that this judicial farce detracts from the war effort.
