One of the best vacations ever was a Safari in South Africa....I really couldn't have anticipated the amazement and elation seeing these larger than life animals up close. It wasn't too different from Sam O'Neil's character in Jurassic Park when he saw the grazing Brontosaurus-- Even more intense was the bush walk with no vehicle to speed away and the only protection a big guide with a bigger gun---where I'm going with this I have no idea----But I know you love books and I would really recommend Boyd Varity's The LIon Tracker's Guide to Life--(Cathedral of the Wild, another Varity book). But one line about life in the book that I love-there are many others---is "I don't know where I am going, but I know exactly how to get there."
the closest i got to africa was ed barnes telling me about all the sicknesses he caught there. https://www.edbarn.es/ and, of course, the *white hunter* books by jack hunter. i read a bunch of those! ed loved africa, especially the chaos of it.
