Day 762
Lots of stuff to write about this morning, but first some housekeeping.
Several people have criticized me for my girlie Gaviota 4 Hoka sneakers, expressing amazement that I would spend $170 dollars for the tallest midsoles on the market. In fact, I spent UAH 560 (about $14) for them on Shafa. They were cheap because they were missing half of their J-Frame(TM) pads, which I found myself and glued in with Hercul. I don’t like the color of the sneakers either. That’s why I wear them when it is dark or early early in the morning. And no, I don’t suffer from overpronation.
I’ve also been cycling around since February 20, except for when it snowed. Big Fatty is doing fine. So far, I have been unable to break it. Time trials for the commute back and forth to work have been fun, but a little tricky the last couple of days because maintenance workers have re-synchronized traffic lights without warning. This has led to false starts and near collisions.
Reporting on and reaction to Kyiv being targeted and bombed by two Zircon hypersonic missiles yesterday has been inadequate and underwhelming1. It looks like it will take a another tragedy like MH17 ten years ago before political leaders of liberal democracies wake up and actually do something.
The New York Times publishes a ridiculous article about what Speaker Mike may or may not cook up in order to save us from sudden, gruesome deaths2.
It’s already too little, too late. The 6-month pause in military assistance from Team USA has led to countless avoidable deaths and suffering. Just imagine if western allies had pulled out of Berlin during the early 1980s and you get the picture.
And this just in from mealy-mouthed Lindsey:
The world is a very dangerous place. To those who advocate for abandoning Ukraine and letting Putin have his way, even more chaos will be released if your advice is followed. For the most part, these same people advocated for withdrawing from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. Letting terrorists roam free and thugs like Putin take other countries by force always comes back to haunt the civilized world. When it comes to national security, weakness and isolationism are a formula for disaster.
No shit. What a hipocrite.
Vowing the U.S. Will ‘Do Our Job,’ Johnson Searches for a Path on Ukraine. The Republican speaker, with his job on the line, has privately told people he would make sure the House moves to assist Ukraine, a step that many members of his party oppose (The New York Times, March 25, 2024)
