Given the facts on the ground and the snail-like response (F16's years late-one example) by the West after its initial support, what is a realistic end game for this war that supports the goals of stopping the killing and maintaining an independent Ukraine? I only ask because from where I sit I see only bad options.

hi, mark. i had this in mind writing today's post. we (in ukraine) must stop tolerating the western vision for ukraine that provides for our own destruction. that is, our definition of "victory" for ukraine cannot be one where russia's goals of depopulation and genocide are allowed to succeed, for, to allow that, would mean we are delusional. the goal of the excercise is the push the pink blobs on our war map out of ukraine. if there was that *will* there would be a way. that means *the realistic end game* is a country with lots of amputees, a feeble economy, very, very few young people and no future. looking on the positive side, not too late to turn the situation around. but i don't think our political leaders r up to the task. maybe that will change, but, realistically, it won't

I suspect when China kicks off it's attack on Taiwan, Putin will go for the Baltics and Poland, given the US will be somewhat preoccupied.. The Ukraine war will be dragging on without much movement on either side. Article 5 will be invoked but I also suspect the US will have withdrawn from it's Article 5 obligations whilst staying in NATO. I think Trump getting in, and the abandonment of Ukraine is inevitable. Europe is quite capable of defeating Russia but I guess they lack the will.

the intl political picture does look increasingly bleak. ukraine's political picture also is a mess. just read this:

MP Zadorozhniy expelled from Servant of the People party over corruption charges

KYIV. July 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Servant of the People Party has announced the expulsion of Ukrainian Member of Parliament Mykola Zadorozhniy after the anti-corruption agencies notified him of suspicion.

"Mykola Zadorozhniy has been expelled from the Servant of the People Party. On July 15, the disciplinary commission of the Servant of the People political party held a meeting during which the decision to expel MP Mykola Zadorozhniy from the party was approved. Law enforcers notified him of suspicion of committing crimes under Part 4 of Article 368 and Part 3 of Article 27 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," it said on the Telegram channel on July 15.

As reported, law enforcers reported suspicion to a Ukrainian MP who demanded an unlawful benefit for not creating obstacles for repairs of infrastructure facilities in Sumy region. According to the pre-trial investigation, the suspect demanded 14% of the funds allocated for repairing the water pipeline in the Okhtyrka district, Sumy region, 10% of which for himself and 4% for local law enforcers who were supposed to not hinder the spending of the allocated funds. According to the investigation, it is about UAH 3.4 million.

Since May 2024, Zadorizhniy has been heading the parliament's ad hoc inquiry panel on the use of public funds allocated for the construction of fortifications at the front, production and procurement of drones.

Later, Spokesperson for the Servant of the People faction Yulia Paliychuk announced the suspension of Zadorozhniy's membership in the faction for the time of investigation, adding that he "will also be expelled from the parliamentary ad hoc inquiry panel."
