Everything is Not Fine

It’s day whatever of Ukraine’s COVID-19 disaster and President Volodymyr Zelensky has said government’s response to the pandemic was timely. He’s even made the observation “top news” on the President’s Office website.

“…Since the first day of the threat of coronavirus in Ukraine, the Office of the President has been actively involved in providing the healthcare system with the necessary medical means. In particular, more than 20 planes were sent to China and other countries to deliver protection means, coronavirus tests and other special equipment to Ukraine.” Zelensky said during the Svoboda Slova TV show aired on Friday evening.

This is bullshit, of course. Under Zelensky, community spread of SARS-CoV-2 in all 27 regions of Ukraine has been rampant for months, thanks to germy Russian Orthodox priests, millionaire MPs who didn’t wash their hands in Courchevel and tens of thousands of migrant workers, who two weeks ago were marched like cattle across the Poland-Ukraine border.

Zelensky’s decision in late March to install Maksym Stepanov, Ihor Kolomoisky’s gynecologist turned gas trader, as health minister brought a method, or “algorithm,” to cleaning up the mess, but it has changed often, sometimes several times during one day, depending on the president’s mood.

As of this writing, the result isn't unlike a horrible accident, except it’s been caused by an unemployed actor desperate for attention and applause. You want to laugh and be entertained, but you also want to avoid becoming a COVID-19 victim and paying too much attention to the horribleness of the grisly deaths Ukraine’s president has failed to prevent.
